CLAREMONT COLLEGE

Cross Country Carnival Postponed

Dear Claremont Community,

Due to the recent wet weather and forecast rain, the Cross Country Carnival scheduled for Centennial Park on 9 March has been postponed. We have been advised by Centennial Parklands that the cross country tracks at the park will remain closed for the remainder of the week. As a result, we are unable to proceed with our backup booking at the park on 11 March. Instead we will move ahead with Plan C, which is a Cross Country race run at Grant Reserve on Friday 11 March. We are going ahead with this option, rather than rescheduling for a later week due to IPSHA entry deadline, Year 6 Canberra Excursion and other scheduled events in the school.

Please see below the details of the Cross Country at Grant Reserve on Friday 11 March:

  • Students will be travelling by bus to Grant Reserve in Stage groups to race at different times of the day, and then returning to school.

STAGE GROUPS

TIME

Kindy, Year 1, 2

9:10am - 10:10am

Year 3, 4

11:10am - 12:10pm

Year 5, 6

1:30pm - 2:30pm

  • Students will be racing in Year groups, not age groups. E.g. Year 6 boys, Year 6 girls.
  • Years 2-6 will run an approx 2km course. Kindy & Year 1 will run 1km.
  • IPSHA selection for each age group will be based on times from the different races (age turning in 2022).
  • The top 5 fastest times in each of the following age groups will progress to IPSHA on Saturday 26 March: 8-9 (combined), 10, 11, 12+
  • The races will still be going ahead in the event of rain (unless it is extreme weather).
  • Students should wear their house coloured shirt to run in on the day. It is advised that they bring a spare sports shirt to change into back at school if they get wet while running.
  • In the event of rain, students who are not racing will wait undercover in the pergola area of Grant Reserve/Claremont gazebo.
  • Thank you for the very generous offers of help from some parents for the carnival at Centennial Park. As we don’t have the same need for checkpoints at Grant Reserve, we will not require your assistance. Please feel free to spectate and cheer the students on from the sidelines.

Students should still wear their Sport uniform on Wednesday 9 March as normal, however, swimming at UNSW will not be going ahead, therefore, Years 2-4 do not need to bring their swimwear.

We are looking forward to going ahead with a fun and exciting day at Grant Reserve on Friday.
