Auditions coming soon...

That time has finally come!! It is time to start preparing for the 2018 Claremont School Musical.

In Term 3, the whole school will be putting on our biennial musical production for 2018. This is currently being written by a number of teachers in conjunction with Mr Thomas. This production will take place in our brand new venue at NIDA Kensington for two performances in September.

This musical is based on the theme of ‘kids’.

We are looking for a number of students to play the lead characters. These children will need to be energetic, enthusiastic and willing to commit themselves to extra rehearsals at lunchtimes and Friday afternoons after school. If selected they will need to work hard, but it is also a wonderful opportunity to have lots of fun along the way! Auditions will be held on Tuesday 29 May (Week 5) at school. Mrs Barr will run an audition workshop on Monday 21 May (Week 4), at lunchtime to prepare for this.

Year 5 and 6 students will be expected to sing a section of the song, ‘This Is Me', off by heart for an audition panel. All students auditioning must sing this song and also learn a script which is attached in the audition pack. Every child must do the singing AND acting audition.

To book an audition please follow the link below:

As every child will dance in their grade item and participate in the finale (and perform in two shows – a matinee and an evening performance), there will be plenty of opportunities and challenges – this is going to be one fun show!

Unfortunately, younger students may not audition.

Remember, the more prepared your child is, the more relaxed they will feel for their audition. Auditions can be quite daunting, however, put in the right preparation and it makes the experience more enjoyable!

Mrs Barr will run an audition workshop in Week 4. This is optional but may give your child the inside tips of what is required and how to prepare successfully.

Every show differs. This year, there will be a limited number of ‘main cast roles’. Please discuss the probability of not getting a part with your child. We are auditioning for 8 speaking parts and one singing role. Please be encouraging and realistic when discussing this process with your child. To help prepare them for the real world, remember that your reaction if they are not successful is integral to this process. Trust in the audition panel.

Please talk to your child about auditions, it is a fantastic way to build resilience. The reality is that some children may not get a part – that’s showbiz! Most of the top actors/musicians out there have ALL been knocked back. What makes us stronger is getting back up again and not giving up. Your child's' resilience and ultimate response will be determined by your encouragement of this - no matter what the outcome is. I know first hand, as I have been through this process from a very young age and am still knocked back regularly!!!!

Don't forget - you must learn the song and at least 2 scripts off by heart.

Thank you and happy rehearsing!
