CLAREMONT COLLEGE

INDONESIAN @CLAREMONT

We are having a very busy semester at Claremont continuing our study of Indonesia. Our volunteers continue their fantastic support with Speaking Skills in classrooms.

ANGKLUNG ORCHESTRA

At lunchtime on Tuesdays we have an enthusiastic group of students who attend an angklung practice in the Hall. Students have also joined in a Angklung Workshop with musicians visiting from Adelaide.

We are so thankful that the P & F gifted us with a new set of angklung instruments. We are busy learning new tunes and planning some performances later in the year.

INTERNATIONAL DAY

A highlight for students at our inaugural International Day was the Suara Indonesia Dance workshop. Students enjoyed learning some traditional dances and we look forward to inviting the dancers back to Claremont for our next event.

KOMPETISI SISWA

During Term 3, classes were working hard to complete their entries for the annual Kompetisi Siswa, a state-wide competition sponsored by the Indonesian Embassy. Everyone did an amazing job so it was extremely difficult selecting just six entrants for each stage to represent Claremont.

LANGUAGES CONFERENCE

Last week Miss Inglis and I attended the AIS Languages Conference ‘Lifting Languages’, where we heard and learnt a lot about new research and ideas in the Languages learning domain. We look forward to sharing some of the most exciting ideas and new tricks with staff and students alike!
